I am a professor of anthropology at Grand Valley State University and have done research on Catholic pilgrimage since 1995. However, I have become increasingly interested in space exploration, particularly religious influences on it and the impact it has on religious beliefs. I am also interested in exploring how the scientific expedition may be seen as a specific type of travel comparable to pilgrimage/tourism/ethnographic fieldwork.
