About Tomas

Tomás de Oliveira is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociocultural Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on the circulation and functioning of technoscience. Specifically, his dissertation examines how scientists in Brazil use virtual reality in psychological research, exploring how its use shapes ideas about what science is and should be. Tomás also served as a research assistant for the project “Indigenous Peoples Responding to COVID-19 in Brazil: Social Arrangements in a Global Health Emergency,” funded by the UKRI. His broader interests lie in the circulation and production of technoscience, weaving together postcolonial STS, the anthropology of techniques, and the anthropology of science.
